Macao in April

March through April is spring in Macao, when it is humid, warm and wet. It is warm, and the average temperature during the day is 22 °C (72 °F). A T-shirt with long sleeves the best choice for comfort, though a light sweater at night to stay warm is worthwhile as the temperature drops a little. By April rainfall is up to 200 mm with a third of the days wet, and umbrellas needed. It’s a fine time to visit the Camões Grotto home to a 16th century poet and merchant, the grounds full of birds and colorful flowers forming the oldest and largest public park in Macao, an oasis amongst the bustle of the city.

Recommended Festivals For Macao in April

A-Ma Festival

April

Celebrated every April, this festival is dedicated to A-Ma, a Taoist goddess particularly revered in Macau, who was said to have saved seafarers and protect fisherfolk. Macao’s name came to be when Portuguese soldiers asked for the name of the place, and locals replied ‘A-Ma-Gao’ (Bay of A-Ma). During this festival, a grand ceremony is put on at the A-Ma Cultural Village, along with a parade, Chinese and Portuguese art troupe performances, and week-long Chinese opera performed at the A-Ma Temple.
