Remote Lands Announces Contemporary Art Journey Through Asia with the Peninsula Hotels

Remote Lands, the world’s leading ultra-luxe Asia travel designer,has teamed up with luxury hotel brand The Peninsula Hotels to offer guests an unforgettable journey into Asia’s contemporary art capitals from February 19to March 5, 2017. The trip will take 16 travelers through Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo where they will stay in five Peninsula hotels while gaining access to exclusive contemporary art experiences in each city.

The new 15-day itinerary, Journey Through Asia’s Contemporary Art Capitals, features a variety of private, high-end art offerings for guests including intimate tours of acclaimed art museums, galleries and private collections, meeting world-renowned Asian artists and learning about their craft, artist panel discussions, private touring around the city and more. Each night of the trip is spent in a luxury, five-star Peninsula property. The also program echoes The Peninsula’s commitment to supporting and showcasing public art projects and commissions, as evidenced in their collaboration with artists during major global art fairs such as Art Basel Hong Kong and EXPO Chicago.

Bangkok

The starting point of the trip, highlights of the Bangkok portion include a visit to the stunning Yenaka Art Village in Bangkok for a private lunch with some of the city’s leading contemporary art gallery owners; a stop at Souled Out Studio, founded by renowned English artist and long-time Bangkok resident, Chris Bowden, recognized as one of the world’s 100 leading figures in street art; and a stunning helicopter flight around Bangkok.

 

Hong Kong

In Hong Kong, guests will have the opportunity to visit the private studio of Hong Kong-based Portuguese artist, João Vasco Paiva, winner of the Hong Kong Emerging Artist award and experience an exclusive visit to the private collection of award-winning architect and artist, William Lim.

 

Shanghai

Stand-out offerings on the Shanghai itinerary include a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the private art collection of world-renowned art dealer and collector Pearl Lam in her private apartment as well as an intimate encounter in the studio of abstract artist Qiu Deshu, whose work is featured in collections across the world.

 

Beijing

In Beijing, guests will experience a breathtaking collection of artwork from the moment they step into the newly renovated Peninsula hotel, which features specially commissioned art from some of China’s top contemporary artists. Guests will spend a morning with former expatriate and one of China’s first graffiti and street artists Zhang Dali, whose work includes graffiti, sculpture, photography and painting; lunch with the founding family of the Guardian Auction House followed by a private tour featuring works not yet publicly taken to auction; a tour of the Faurschou collection, including works in storage that are not publicly displayed, led by the collection’s curator, Xu Guo; and cultural experiences including hiking the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall with an expert and group tai chi at Temple of Heaven.

 

Tokyo

During the final stop of the trip, participants will see the acclaimed Mori Art Museum while being guided by its director, Fumio Nangjo; explore the private collection of renowned collector Takeo Obayshi who collects living artists; visit Teamlab, a collaborative practice that navigates the confluence of technology, design and the natural world; and meet Tokyo-based artist Izumi Kato, known for painting with his hands, whose work has been exhibited all over the world.
